  3. Module 3 Intermediate Guitar - for who wants to be an above average guitarist
  4. Module 4 The Prog & Jazz Guitarist - for musicians into advanced rock & jazz
  5. Module 5 Acoustic Guitar for Friends -  for beginners with an interest into folk guitar
  6. Module 6 Parent & Child Folk Guitar - an opportunity for parent & child to learn the wonderful guitar together.
  7. Module 7 Music Theory Graded Exams - a 12-lesson course starting anytime in the year

Modules 1-4 held in studios at £11 per student per session (due to studio & amp hire). Modules 7 held in local centres at only £8.

Cool Gool Guitars is in contact with studios/ local community centres all around London (zone 1-3 of the TfL network), but due to studio booking policies/prices varying at peak times, the more students booked, the more liable it is for a course to run in your area.

Hints re soloing – establish the key, then forget it and groove on

Prerequisites : Some Basic Skills (Scale Shapes, Open Chords & some Barre Chords) & Good Fingerboard Knowledge (1 private lesson could be taken in advance to learn this).

Module 3 : Intermediate Guitar (a 10-lesson course)
String Skipping Chordal Playing
Finger Picking
Speed Scales & Slur Building Techniques
Bending & Vibrato
Modes – relation to major/ natural minor scales & mapping them on guitar
Vertical vs Horizontal – Applying parts of different modes to move within the same scale across fingerboard
Natural Harmonics across fingerboard
7th chords & Rhythm Guitar in Latin Music
Group Project – Application of all the above in 1 or 2 songs written between group

Eligible for : Who wants to be an above average guitar player
Prerequisites : Basic understanding of most items in Module 2 (inc. fingerboard by heart)

Module 4 : The Prog & Jazz Soloist (a 10-lesson course)
Presentation of varied Prog Rock & Jazz Styles; Artificial Harmonics
Extended Chords - 9ths, 11ths, 13ths.
Use of two-note chords (diads) in soloing
Combined Flat & Finger Picking; Wes Montgomery octave-style playing
Transposition, Modulation, Pivot Chords & Secondary Dominant 7th Chords
Combining Tapping with String Skipping Licks across different Speed Scales/Modes
Extending the CAGED system to speed scales = more chord shapes and solos everywhere
Whole-Tone & Diminished Scales & their Application in Solos; Division of Class*
Jazz Harmony - Tritione substitutions, Neapolitan 6th chords, German Augmented 6ths & Coltrane changes & introduction to Bebop scales
Presentation Gig
Eligible for : Musicians into Advanced Rock Styles & Jazz
Prerequisites : Basic understanding of most Module 3; basic Sight Reading; solid diatonic theoretical knowledge + a love for adventurous music - prog rock, jazz, extreme metal, etc.
Expected Daily Practice Time between Lessons : 15mins alone + 1 weekly out-of-class rehearsal as a team from lesson 4-8 (class will be split as 2 seperate teams)

Module 5 : Acoustic Guitar for Friends (a 10-lesson course)
Presentation of varied different Folk Styles & Techniques; Unlocking the fingerboard; Alternate Picking methods
Different guitar woods & sound production; Finger independence techniques; Introduction of Tablature
Basic open position chords
Strumming in Time to songs using basic open position chords progressions
Minor Scale Fingerings
Applying minor scales for melodies

Get to the next level in 12 lessons!
Choose between ABRSM/ LCM classical music theory up to Grade 5;
or LCM Popular Music Theory up to Grade 8.
