NITE OV DA LIVIN DETH – LIVING THE DIFFERENCE

Picture it, the early hours of a Sunday morning - a group of friends dressed up in latex, medieval and other alternative garb make their way among the other ‘normal’ nightcrawlers, sticking out like a sore thumb, the vibrant hair colours undoubtedly a key factor in attracting the ‘unwanted’ attention. They had been to the Nite Ov Da Livin Deth, an event advertised as a themed party with a difference – and what a difference!

In line with Bisoul Promotions’ previous ventures, the event was geared to pull in the alternative crowd, that percentage of Maltese youth unwilling to get down to the sound of the crowd, or as the promo flyer so gracefully put it, the humandroids. Perhaps the best thing about these events, as pointed out by Error Soul #1 (aka DJ Gool), is that the crowd hails from diverse music genres to listen to other kinds of music they might not usually be accustomed to. Underlying the non-stop music concept, the event also provides a bit of variety to the regular scene, which often tends to verge towards boring. Depending on which part of the alternative music spectrum you’re coming from, Nite Ov Da Livin Deth probably had something that you could enjoy, whether dancing or listening to – from trip-hop to brutal metal, EBM (electronic body music), old school goth, 80’s new romantic music and a touch of post-rock – all genres featured on the playlist!

The musical variety reflects Bisoul’s general policy of non-discrimination, whether this is to do with race, colour or creed. Music is universal and has no barriers – the governing rule is simple, this is our music, you’re welcome to enjoy it. If you don’t like it you’re free to leave! In fact, on the night, the crowd, while largely Maltese, also included people from Britain, Indonesia, Libya and Germany, amongst others. The presence of foreigners was an added boost to the organisers, who are striving to do away with the misconstrued idea that such parties did not exist in Malta!

Meanwhile, Bisoul Promotions are working on an underground theatrical music production, which should be the first of its kind in Malta. They are looking for extras so if you’re interested, drop in at their website, where you will also find details of more themed parties scheduled for this year. Bisoul Promotions are aiming to expand the playlist of their parties even further to include other types of metal, neofolk, medieval music, industrial, avant-garde, ethnic music, power electronics and many more genres that the organisation feels deserve more attention in local venues and clubs. According to Error Soul #2 (aka DJ Swan) anyone with interesting suggestions should log on to the website at www.bisoulpromotions.tk and contact them.
