Laurence
Zrinzo
an informal chat with Bisoul Promotions
Another name present at GeNeTiKa was Laurence Zrinzo, salesman in an Artshop in
Valletta by day, comic collector & Anime & American Comics illustrator by night.
Not new to having his own exhibits at art gallerias, this October 29 & 30 GeNeTiKa brought him from the up-tight museums and art cafes to the very own Bisoul grounds at Signals!!!!
A
man who prefers to talk through his paintings, Bisoul has managed to cease some
words from the man himself!
“Well, when I was a child my hobby was to see Anime on TV and read American comics! So, at already such a tender age I was already a fanatic about these subjects. As time went on, I could not take it all in and not give some of it back out, so it was then I started to discovered that some talent lurked in little Laurence Zrinzo. I still recall how I used to tell my parents I wanted to be an artist in the future hehe! So, I decided to study Cartoonist Illustrations!
In 2001 I decided to put up an expo to bring forth the works of the Classic Anime Authors, and I must say it was received well. From here, I was offered a TV program on the local MaxPlus channel, which I carried on for 3 months!
However,
questions about my previous exhibition from the local Anime fanatics had me
work once more on a come-back to the art galleries. The fans wanted more, so
to work on it, I had to quit the TV!
So, it was in 2003 at Galleria Liberte' Valletta where I returned! Through works of the great animators like Shingo Araki, Akemi Takada, Leiji Matsumoto, Hayao Miyazaki, Tatsunoko Productions, Go Nagai, Tsukaza Hojo and my own, the energy at this return was overwhelmingly FANTASTIC! The comments and feedback from the public made it even better, and I was so completed to feel all of this within the confines of my soul!!!”
At
this point, the obvious question left is how does Laurence Zrinzo see himself
at GeNeTiKa? Thing is that while a sizeable amoun
t
of our punters are ardent fans of Anime, the thing that binds most of our punters
together is a tendency for dressing up spookily for Halloween!!! Sure they would
definitely enjoy to have a self-portrait of them, how does Laurence intend to
capture this? Do you intend merge your anime futuristic experience with the
touch of spookiness their garments might influence you to?
“First and foremost, I am a messenger for Anime classics, so I can make portraits through my Anime eye quite easily. But to be honest I cannot say beforehand, I have confidence in my imagination and experience, and I am sure to work out what my clients request, giving them value for their money. Also, the surroundings and clothes are surely an influence at how I might see things through my eye. So definitely if you give me spooky, I give you spooky. So come on dress up all you people of the night for GeNeTiKa!!! I will be on the look-out for challenging portraits to draw!!!!”
